Dowty seals
A Dowty Seal (commonly known as a bonded seal or bonded washer) is a high-pressure, static gasket used to create a leak-proof fluid barrier around screw threads, bolts, and pipe connections. Invented in the 1940s by the Dowty Group, it features a dual-material design consisting of a rigid metal outer ring and a trapezoidal elastomeric inner lip vulcanized together under immense heat and pressure. When compressed under joint torque, the elastomeric ring deflects to fill micro-imperfections on the metal surface, while the metal ring serves as a permanent compression limiter to prevent over-tightening or blowout.

About this item
Dowty seals, widely known as bonded seals or bonded washers, are high-pressure sealing components consisting of a metal outer ring and an elastomeric rubber inner ring vulcanised together. They are engineered to prevent fluid or gas leaks in high-vibration and high-pressure hydraulic fittings, valves, pipe joints, and thread connections where standard washers or O-rings fail. When a bolt or fitting is tightened, the rubber element compresses to create an airtight, zero-leak seal, while the robust metal ring serves as a compression limiter to prevent structural damage or blowout under pressure
